Royal Easter Show

Over the mid semester break my friend Paige and I took a day trip to check out Sydney’s Royal Easter Show.  The show takes place at the Olympic Park which in itself was pretty cool. I’m accustomed to seeing the Olympic Park in Lake Placid but stadiums for summer Olympics are different.

It was very similar to what we might see at a state fair. With games, shows, food, agricultural competitions, and exhibitions. Also, this creepy guy right at the start! After the Elmo in NYC a long time ago, I've learned to never get too close.

We went to the poultry area, chicks are much cuter than turkeys.

In one of the barns there were sheep pulling a cart with a stuffed sheep in it. Strange.

But then I moved on to look at the alpacas! I love them!!

A goat judging competition was happening when we were passing by, I know they judge farm animals but I’m not used to seeing it. It looks a lot like a dog show but with goats. The goats not being showed became my best friends.

The best part of the day was the pig barn! I love pigs! Especially piglets. We watched them eat and sleep.

An adorable exhibit was set up with the three little piggies!

We got to go in to the pen to play with the little piggies!

They liked me.

And thought my toes were yummy.

Paige got to pick one up to get a bath. It made the worst squealing noise ever.

We watched a show about how they milk the cows. It was a set-up just for the fair, the farmers bring their show cows to it for milking their cows and for educational shows. It is food grade equipment as well.

We watched some horse shows

Precision driving

And some motocross

Inside one of the domes we walked through rows of flower arrangements

paintings, cakes and jams.

For some reason they had a dinosaur exhibit that we enjoyed.

Sitting down in the stadium we watched beautiful sunset before the show began.

The police horses put on an impressive show

There was a rodeo, some more trucks and bikes and then the Australiana show. Probably the worst and cheesiest shows I have ever watched. The premise is supposed to be showcasing all the best that Australia has to offer; famous people, inventions and ideals that have come out of Australia over the years. It was definitely a learning process.

As with a lot of events here, it started with an Aboriginal show with a didgeridoo.

Dancing vegemite came out just after the lawnmower chasing the clothes line.

Light up models of the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House showed a serene scene

The evening finished with a nice display of fireworks.

Overall we had a fun filled day together!
