Blue Mountains Day 2

We woke up in the morning, after arriving late at night we got our first view of where we were actually staying. It’s amazing how things can seem so different between night-time and day-time. There were also more people saying in the area than I remembered from pulling in last night. Which means when I walking into the field to use natures toilet in the nighttime, I was far too close to the campsite of a family, thankfully they will never know.

This morning, after packing up camp we head to one of the most popular tourist locations in the Blue Mountains, the Three Sisters. This rock formation is essentially an interesting rock formation. Though according to Aboriginal legend, they were three sisters, 'Meehni', 'Wimlah' and Gunnedoo' who were turned to tone by a witchdoctor to protect them from harm during a tribal war caused by the love between the sisters and three brothers from an outside tribe. The witchdoctor was the only one who could change them back, but died in battle, so they remain as a reminder of the battle for future generations. They are also nice to look at.

Thought the weather forecast predicted rain for the whole weekend! We were lucky enough to settle for just a few sprinkles the day before and some sunshine to bless our views today.

The rocks and clay here are different from the granite I am used to in the Adirondacks. The base of the Blue Mountains is mainly sandstone, which means much different rock formations than I am used to.

At the Three Sisters there is a trail called The Giant Staircase. This connect to a couple of trails at the bottom, one leads to a gondola that can be taken to the top with beautiful views the entire way. We unfortunately decide to walk down the 900 steps in order to walk back up them. This is on the way down, before we got tired.

We walked down so many stairs. Along the edge of the rocks, it was a little high up with some good views.

At the bottom we found a junction. That was all. Over 900 stairs and there were no views there. It was still lots of fun and we had a good workout on the way back up!

After lunch we went hiking on another trail, heading to a waterfall! Walking on this trail we headed to a true and proper rain forest. Oh it was spectacular!

The eucalyptus trees were all around us, unfortunately we saw no wild koalas despite our constant vigilance.
